Neil Saund’s duplex

12966 Rubens Ave. LA, CA
Saturday Dec 7th @ 6:00 pm

Bring Food!

This is a potluck party, so we are depending on YOU to bring your favorite holiday dish to share.  Please know that there will be lmited cooking and prep space, so bring your offering ready to eat and hot (if appropriate) in a disposable container (Smart & Final is a great resource for this).  If you must bring it in non-disposable dish, please be prepared to take that dish home with you at the end of the party.  We already have several volunteers to bring fried turkey, grilled lamb, ham, and carbonade, but we need help rounding out our main courses.  Bring sides or holiday staples like stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, creamed corn, veggies, and salads.  Bring appetizers and finger food like shrimp, pig in a blanket, egg rolls, stuffed mushrooms.  Bring you family recipe or holiday traditions.  There will be no “service” but dinner should commence by 7 PM.  Please email kperiolat@gmail.com with the dish you would like to bring so we can make a label for your food.

Bring Yourself!

We need volunteers to help pull off a 150+ person party!  We will be doing preliminary setup on Sunday, December 1st at noon where we will setup everything that can survive being rained on (you never know).  Final setup will be done on the morning of the party on December 7th.  If you can volunteer for setup duty, please email VicePresident@pacificgravity.com.  If you can’t be there to setup, please come to help with the cleanup.  We need to start cleanup at 10 AM on Sunday morning.  Again, email VicePresident@pacificgravity.com to volunteer.

Bring Stuff!

We are renting some things, but we need the membership to help with much needed equipment.  Please email President@pacificgravity.com if you can bring any of the items listed below to the party:

  • Easy Ups (in case of inclimate weather)
  • Patio Heaters
  • Jockey Boxes
  • CO2 Tanks
  • serving tables

We already have things for the raffle, but if you have lightly used equipment, glassware, or other schwag to donate, please contact FundRaiser@pacificgravity.com

Bring Beer!

Please email Carl at CompetitionCoordinator@pacificgravity.com with your beer’s name, style, ABV, and keg volume so that he can make labels. Feel free to bring home brew or special commercial beers in bottles to share with other guests as well.

September Meeting at Four Points LAX http://pacificgravity.com/2013/09/september-meeting-at-four-points-lax/ Wed, 11 Sep 2013 17:42:25 +0000 http://pacificgravity.org/?p=3446 Greetings members, I’m happy to announce the the Four Points Sheraton at LAX will be hosting our September meeting. I’ve you have been a member for any amount of time you will be familiar with this hotel and their extensive support of craft beer culture through hosting our First Friday events as well as beer tastings and beer pairing dinners. The focus of the meeting will be sampling member’s home brew, giving constructive feedback, announcements regarding upcoming events, a raffle, and sampling of the beers that Four Points has on tap. Four Points will make available a meeting space exclusively for our meeting on Thursday, September 19th. Here are some important details:

– The style of the meeting is lagers. You may bring bottles, growlers, and kegs of home brewed beers. The club will purchase tastes of beer from the hotel, hopefully they will have some good examples of the style.

– The meeting will begin at 7:30 PM and end at 10 PM. Please encourage the hotel to host us again by planning on eating dinner at the hotel beforehand. Light snacks will be provided during the tasting, but it won’t be enough to replace a meal.

August 15th meeting at the Richmond Bar and Grill http://pacificgravity.com/2013/08/august-15th-meeting-at-the-richmond-bar-and-grill/ http://pacificgravity.com/2013/08/august-15th-meeting-at-the-richmond-bar-and-grill/#comments Thu, 08 Aug 2013 14:27:10 +0000 http://pacificgravity.org/?p=3435 Hi everyone, just a quick note to let you all know that we will be holding our August meeting at the Richmond Bar and Grill on August 15th at 7:30 PM.  I encourage you to reward our gracious host’s decision to accommodate our club by coming early to enjoy dinner.  We will have the back building and can spillover into the patio space if we are over capacity.  The meeting style of the month will be meads, ciders, gruits, and fruit beers.  Although the club only competition has been discontinued by the AHA, I would encourage members to bring a bottle of their appropriately styled beverage to share with other club members.  The focus of the meeting will be sampling member’s home brew, giving constructive feedback, announcements regarding upcoming events, a raffle, and sampling of the beers that Richmond has on tap.  Remember, the focus is on sampling homebrew, so keep the size of what you bring reasonable (no kegs, magnums, etc).  We’ll target concluding the meeting at 9:30 PM although the Richmond stays open later if you would like to stay.  As Carl mentioned, be sure to bring entries to the meeting for the Pacific Brewer’s Cup.  We might try to arrange another pickup closer to the deadline, but right now this is your best opportunity to have the club assist you with the logistics of entering the competition.

This is a bit of an experiment, so I’d welcome constructive feedback on how this goes.

The Richmond Bar and Grill is located at 145 Richmond St  El Segundo, CA 90245

Goose Island Events and Summer Party Planning http://pacificgravity.com/2013/06/goose-island-events-and-summer-party-planning/ http://pacificgravity.com/2013/06/goose-island-events-and-summer-party-planning/#comments Sat, 29 Jun 2013 00:04:05 +0000 http://pacificgravity.org/?p=3399 Hi everyone, Happy Friday.    I wanted to let you know about some free events in July that feature some rare Goose Island products.  But first, I want to talk about volunteering for the Summer Party.  There is an organizing meeting on July 11th at Dean’s house.  If you are available to do some of the heavy lifting for the summer party (buying supplies, transporting kegs, renting chairs), we’d appreciate it if you could attend. Email me at president@pacificgravity.com so I can get a headcount since Dean will be providing dinner.  If you can’t make the organizing meeting but would like to help and you didn’t sign up for it at the last club meeting, email me at president@pacificgravity.com and we can work out if you would like to help before during, and/or after the party.  Finally, make sure you mark your calendars for July 20th for the summer party.  And as I announced at the March meeting, unless you have heard otherwise from me your guests must pay $10 to attend the party in order for us to make up the costs.

Now for the Goose Island announcements:

“On Wed., July 10 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Beer Belly, we’ll be tapping a Bourbon County Stout Single Barrel, Bourbon County Stout Coffee (2012) and Bourbon County Stout Cherry, along with The Illinois, Sofie Paradisi, Matilda, Madame Rose (2010) and Juliet (2012). Brewmasters from Goose Island will be in attendance to talk great beer. Beer Belly is located at 532 S. Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90020.

Also, on Thur., July 11 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Surly Goat, we’ll be sampling – Bourbon County Stout Single Barrel, Bourbon County Stout Cherry Rye, Bourbon County Stout Coffee (2011), Bourbon County Stout Vanilla (2010), as well as Sofie, Sofie Paradisi, The Illinois, Madame Rose and Night Stalker. Surly Goat is located at 7929 Santa Monica Blvd. West Hollywood, CA 90046. Unfortunately, our brewer will not be around for this event.”

Summer party is July 20th! And June meeting next week http://pacificgravity.com/2013/06/summer-party-is-july-20th-and-june-meeting-next-week/ Sat, 15 Jun 2013 20:14:49 +0000 http://pacificgravity.org/?p=3398 Hey everyone a quick announcement to let you know that the summer party is scheduled for July 20th. We’ll be returning to our classic location at Dean’s house on Amalfi Drive and the theme is South of the Border. More details coming but mark your calendars. Also be prepared to help before, during, and after to make this the best summer party ever!

You can learn lots more at the June meeting coming up this Thursday the 20th. The beer theme is wheat and spelt beers so if you made something neat at the monster brew consider bringing it. Noelle will be hosting the commercial tasting and we will be awarding a gift certificate for best beer of the meeting. Finally, this will likely be the last meeting at the usual location, so come with some ideas about how you would like club meetings to be conducted in the future.
