Summer Party – Saturday July 21st!

Our annual Summer Party is nearly here and for those of you who have never been to one, it is our largest and most entertaining event of the year.  We are doing things a little bit differently this year; our longtime host Dean Sussman is frolicking in Italy this summer, so our ever-gracious host, Neil Saund, has once again offered up his Duplex for our festivities.

When: Saturday, July 21st, 2012, from 1-8pm

Where: Neil Saund’s Duplex, 12966 Rubens Ave, LA,  90066

Admission: All current (dues paid-up to date) members are free, though you can pay your dues at the door or at the June club meeting with the $5 late fee.  Admission for guests of club members will be $10.

Theme: We will be celebrating “Oktoberfest In July” this year!

Kegs: We encourage and need a selection of beverages, including homebrew (any Oktoberfest selections are encouraged!), meads, ciders, and non-alcoholic beverages.  Awards will be given at the end of the party for the favorite alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverage.  Sign-up sheets will be available at the June club meeting or as we get closer to the party.  Please notify Carl @ [email protected] so he can plan ahead for your beers or other beverages to be served cold.  Kegs can be brought to Neil’s Duplex on either set-up day (7/14 or 7/20) or dropped off at CCHBS by close of business (9pm) on Thursday 7/19.  We need them prior to the day of the party in order to plan for enough taps, ice, and space so that everyone’s brews can be sampled by all.

Food:  Sausages will be the primary focus, but all other Oktoberfest and Bavarian-themed dishes are welcomed, such as sauerkraut, pretzels, cheeses, and pork knuckles for those adventurous few!  We’ll hold a contest for the best German Potato Salad of the day, so get creative with your recipes!  All members that attend the party are encouraged to bring a dish of some sort, be it an appetizer, salad, side dish, an addition to the main course, or desserts.

Volunteers: These parties are run by all of us taking a turn and lending a hand at different tasks such as set-up, food preparation & grilling, and of course clean-up the morning after accompanied by a large cup of coffee or a breakfast beer!  Sign-up sheets for volunteer shifts will be available at the June club meeting on Thursday 6/21, but please also feel free to email [email protected] anytime to sign-up or ask any questions.

Set-up: As with our Holiday Party set-ups at Neil’s Duplex, we will have a set-up day the Saturday before the party on July 14th, where we will be prepping the house, moving in bigger items, decorating, and most likely sharing a beer.  If you have Oktoberfest-type beers to bring that day, the empties can be added to the decor as well.  Additional set-up for the things that cannot be left up or out for a week will take place the Friday evening before the party and the Saturday morning of the party – where food preparation and last-minute things will need to be done.

Bring: Some items we need ahead of time are jockey boxes, tables, EZ-ups, and large plastic tubs for chilling drinks.  Items to bring the day of the party are lawn chairs, any lawn games, sunscreen, and of course, your food contributions.

Raffle: Our enthusiastic Fundraiser, Terry, will have a bevy of goodies for the raffle later in the afternoon, so plan to bring a little cash to purchase your tickets.

Silent Auction: As a new feature this year, we will hold a silent auction for the Club Brew System that resides in the store window at CCHBS.  It will be on display for all to check out before making a bid and includes a stand, burners, and two keggles.  If you are the lucky winner of this system, you do not need to be prepared to settle up and take it home with you at the end of the party – arrangements will be made for more sober transactions & transportation.

More details will follow soon, so please check back on the website.  If you have any questions, to volunteer, to offer supplies or equipment, or to provide your keg information, please email: [email protected]

Looking forward to a wonderful Summer Party & thank you in advance for all your help in making this event happen!
