Competition Corner – May 2013
The time is now to get your entries ready for the California State Fair. The deadline is Sunday, May 19th at the Culver City shop. Thanks to the help of Peter Moran and his buddies, we have a chauffeured service of our entries up to Sacramento. This means they don’t have to be packed for UPS shipping. By now, hopefully, you have completed your registration process, which was due last week. Results now have been posted for the 35th Annual Mayfaire Homebrew Competition hosted by the Maltose Falcons. Congratulations especially to Best of Show Winners Brian Holter and Kingsley Toby for their Belgian Style Quad Ale. If any of you are keeping track, this is their third Best of Show win in the last six months for Belgian Strongs! Way to go guys! Congratulations also to the sweep of Luke McGuire & Claire Sandahl, Chris Lindsey and Brett Wilson & Tomas Sidenfaden to take the entire American-Style Pale Ale category. Moving on the Club-Only competitions, let’s give a round of applause to Mike Patterson for his Dunkelweizen. We eagerly await his results at the national level. Looking ahead to some schedule changes, note that the American Homebrewers Association has declared this the last COC competition. Previously-listed COCs for September and November will not be held. We will be announcing some updates to our club’s monthly tasting schedule as a result, which will be posted at: http://pacificgravity.org/monthly-stylesclub-only-comps/. All styles are welcome at any club meeting. However, the best beer in the listed styles is eligible for the best beer of the evening award, which comes with a $25 gift certificate to Culver City Home Brewing Supply Co.
