Competition Corner
Results of the California State Homebrew Competition have been announced. The best effort of the club this time was carried by Pete Morris, who picked up two 2nd place ribbons and a 3rd. Close behind him is a new name to the winners’ circle, Heath Haynes, who picked up two 3rd place ribbons. Rounding out the field were one ribbon each for Craig Corley, Carl Townsend and Chris Simental. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who entered. Best of Show was picked up by Rick Reineman of the Brew Angles Homebrew Club. The California Brewer of the Year is Mike Mraz. We still have one remaining Club-Only Competition, this time for Belgian Strong Ales, BJCP Category 18. We will judge these at the November Club meeting on November 19th. Please bring 3 bottles for each entry, and please fill out the entry forms which you can download from the AHA website at: http://www.beertown.org/homebrewing/pdf/entry_recipe.pdf. The club picks up the entry fees and shipping for this one, so it is free to you. Also at this site is the list of all the Club-Only competitions for 2010.
Even though the competition season for 2009 is winding down, don’t let that deter you. Fall is the best time of year to brew with lower temperatures ahead. Next year the slate will start fresh, and we’ll be adding some additional opportunities to garner some points. Get those brewkettles going now and perhaps you will be the 2010 Brewer of the Year.
