Congregation Ale House Monster Brew November 2 – Sign Up Now
Join us for a unique opportunity to brew 
a batch of beer at Congregation Ale House on Learn to Brew Day,Saturday, November 2nd, 2013. Caleb and tRav have graciously offered us this opportunity after we Pacific Gravity members demonstrated our brewing prowess by capturing the most awards in the 2012 Pacific Brewers Cup. The wort is free, but you must sign up ahead of time to guarantee your batch. If you didn’t sign up at the October club meeting, drop me a line at [email protected]. One 5-gallon batch of wort per person will be available on a first sign-up first served basis.
Like past monster brew sessions, this will be a ferment-at-home style process. But unlike most batches, we’re gonna crank up the bitterness on this one. We’ll fire up the 10 barrel all-grain system starting at 5:00 AM, whipping up a high-bitterness India Pale Ale. Lots of you favorite hops will go into the recipe. At the end of the day, you get to take you bucket of wort home and ferment it as you see fit. If 80 IBUs isn’t enough for you, feel free to add more hops, malt, darken it, or whatever you like. At a minimum, you will have to pick a yeast to complement any additions you may wish to make. Here are some of the critical details:
When: Saturday, November 2, starting at 5:00 AM. We will be pouring wort around noon.
Where: Congregation Ale House Azusa Chapter is at 619 N Azusa Blvd, Azusa, 91702. Head east on the 10 to the 605 northbound. Then follow 210 east to Azusa Blvd. Head north six blocks and it will be on the left.
What to bring: You must bring a pre-sanitized bucket with lid to hold your wort. Please DO NOT bring any glass carboys. If you want to pitch you yeast at the brewery, bring your yeast starter along too.
Bring along some homebrews to share. This is the ideal opportunity to break out those coffee porters or stouts. For those of you who need additional caffeine, there is a Starbucks 2 door down the street.
Food: The club will bring along some early morning snacks. Congregation will have their egg sandwiches available for sale starting about 8:00 AM. We suggest everybody buy a lunch when the main kitchen opens at 11:00 AM.
As most of you know, the monster brews are one of the most enjoyable events we do and the best benefit is that there is more beer at the end of the day than there was at the beginning! Hope to see all of you there bright and early.
