October Road Trip Details!

Join Pacific Gravity as we travel down to OC to hit some of the newest players in the Southern California beer scene as well as an old favorite.  On October 18th we will be taking a bus from Culver City Home Brewing Supply (please park in the neighborhood behind the shop).  We will be stopping at TAPS in Brea to enjoy some of their excellent food and their many GABF and World Beer Cup medal winning beers.  Up next will be Bottle Logic brewing.   Yet to celebrate their first anniversary, Bottle Logic is already making waves with standouts like Leche Mole milk stout, the sessionable She Shot First American wheat ale and hop bombs like Actuator and Double Actuator.   After that we’ll be going around the corner to Valiant Brewing, an under the radar spot that has an impressive lineup of big beers, from Alpha Drive and Alpha Overdrive for the hop heads to the gold medal winning Axiom Trappist style ale.

We have spots open still on the bus and will be emailing other clubs to fill the remaining seats – so email Kurt @ [email protected] to grab a spot.

All questions should also go to Kurt @ [email protected].  It is sure to be a great time, so please join us if you are free.

Depart from CCHBS on 10/18 at 10:30AM

Return to CCHB approximately 5PM

Tickets:  $25 (does NOT include lunch)

Monster Brew! Strand Brewers w/ King Harbor Brewing

Hey everyone!

Our friends at Strand Brewers Club have extended an invitation to Pacific Gravity to join them on their Monster Brew scheduled for September 27th at King Harbor Brewing!

If you are interested in participating send an email to Ryan (Strand Pres) @ [email protected]

They will be opening up positions to other clubs on 9/15.  From what I understand the beer is going to be approximately 1.080 OG and will be a malty brown base.  More information about the beer will come out later, but if you are interested in participating make sure you send your email soon!

Brian

Here is the information passed along:

Monster Brew Update

King Harbor Brewing and the Strand Brewers Club are hosting a monster brew on September 27th starting at 9:00 AM.

Finish the LA beer week festivities by attending a monster brew at King Harbor. If you aren’t familiar with a Monster Brew this is a great chance to observe and learn from a commercial brewing session and bring home 5 gallons of wort.

Please respond to this email or at the September meeting if you would like to purchase wort, and let me know if you would like more than 5 gallons. Pending the interest level it should be possible to purchase more than 5 gallons of wort.

An important change to my last email: Bring plastic bucket type fermentors or corny kegs to collect wort.  No glass or better bottle PET carboy shape fermentors.

The brew session will start at 9AM, the tasting room will be open, and wort should be ready to be dispensed around 2PM. This is a great opportunity to observe and learn from a commercial brewing session.

5 gallons of wort will be 30 dollars for any member of a homebrew club and 35 for any non-brew club member. Wort needs to be collected in plastic fermentation buckets or corny kegs; no glass. This will allow everything to be filled with a brewery hose.

There should be a food truck on hand for lunch as well.

Pacific Brewers Cup | WE NEED YOUR COOLERS!

PBC is fast approaching and we need your coolers to help keep your hard work cold during judging. If you have a cooler you can lend us – please bring them to the August 21st APacific Gravity Club meeting @ Culver City Home Brew Supply! BE COOL AND BRING A COOLER!

Cheers!

Summer Party Recap and Pictures!

IMG_3420

I hope everyone had an awesome time.  I want to thank everyone who helped setup and cleanup for the event, cooked food, anyone who donated beer, supplies, tables, etc.  This was my first experience being on the board for one of our big parties and I was amazed at how much many of you stepped up to help put on another great party.  Of course I also need to thank Dean and his family again for opening up their backyard for the party again this year, it really is the perfect setting for a club party.

I wanted to review some of the items discussed at the party for those of you who either couldnt attend, couldnt hear me, etc.

  • Road Trip!  We are putting together a road trip to breweries in Orange County on October 18th.  Mark it down on your calendars!  Kurt is working on the lineup of destinations and we should have a more formal announcement and instructions sometime in the next week or two.  I created an event on the club calendar which you can access on the right column of this page.
  • Pacific Brewers Cup is a little over a month away from now.  If you have never participated in a homebrew competition this is the time to start.  We are looking for all of our members to volunteer to help put on the fest.  We will need help before the actual competition day to organize, but we will also need a lot of volunteers for stewarding and judging on the day of the event.  To signup for volunteering please go to http://pacificbrewerscup.com/
  • Speaking of Pacific Brewers Cup, if you havent brewed a beer yet there is a small window of time to get beers ready.  Entries are due by August 22nd, so if you havent brewed yet for it make sure you put something together this weekend!  This is our year for hosting the event and we would like to be the high point club!
  • Tomorrow night is First Friday @ Najas Place in Redondo.
  • Next club meeting is on August 21st @ Culver City Homebrew Supply
  • If you purchased one of our new awesome beer lanyards at the summer party we will be handing out the larger aluminum rings that will fit our new glassware.  This will give you two different lanyards that fit larger and smaller glasses – a perfect combo!

I took a few pictures on Saturday which I have included below.  Cheers!

SUMMER PARTY INFO

Just a quick reminder to read through this post from earlier this week outlining the help that we will need from all of you to help make this party awesome.  For those of you who have already volunteered, thank you!

The event page is located HERE.  Like last year, entry to the party is free for paid club members and there is a $10 entry fee for all guests.  This $10 fee goes towards helping the club host events in the future for all of you.

Cheers everyone – see you this weekend!

Tomorrow is the big day!

For those of you who have volunteered to setup on Friday night – THANK YOU!  We will be starting our setup @ 6:30pm at Dean’s house.
If you volunteered to bring tables, chairs, jockey boxes, easy-ups, etc. please bring those to Dean’s house on Friday night.

If you signed up for the clean up shift on Saturday morning, we plan on starting the cleanup process @ 10am on Sunday.  The more volunteers we have the shorter the cleanup process should take.  Thanks again for helping out.
