Competition Corner – July 2021

As we are coming out of our COVID-induced cocoons, we finally have some competitions to work on. First up is the California Homebrewers Association Fall Best of Show Competition.  Pacific Gravity is allowed to have two entries only.  Congratulations to Eric Muhlheim who has already qualified with an outstanding Schwarzier. Hence, we have just ONE more entry slot.  This is a small competition with just four more acceptable styles:

❏ 1A. American Light Lager
❏ 1C. Cream Ale
❏ 8B. Schwarzbier (This slot won by Eric!)
❏ 19B. California Common
❏ 23A. Berliner Weisse
If you have a beer to enter, please drop me a line by July 2nd. If more than one person responds, we will do a small taste-off.

This competition is limited to CHA members only.  If you are not currently a member, you can sign up for $9.50.     In addition, the membership will get you 10% off at a number of homebrew-related companies and local breweries.  Sign up at https://www.calhomebrewers.org/.  Then, read the rules at  https://www.calhomebrewers.org/cha-best-of-show-summer-2021/ .  Fill out the 1-page paper form at https://calhomebrewers.org/comps/2021_Summer_CHA_BoS.pdf.   Finally, drop off your entries at one of the local shops.  The closest to us on the westside is Steinfillers in Long Beach, 4160 Norse Way, Long Beach, CA 90808.  Entries must be received by July 7th.  Drop a line to Spencer Coleman (email on the entry form) to let him know it is there.

Next up is the The 43rd Annual Maltose Falcons Mayfaire Homebrew Competition!  All entries are due at the Homebrew Shop by Saturday July 17, 2021. I’ll have a couple entries to take up, so you can drop off entries with Carl no later than Thursday July 15th. The entry fee is a low $10 per entry. All entries must be paid on-line via credit card or PayPal

The style guidelines for this competition will be the 2017 Maltose Falcons Style Guidelines. This competition is limited to 250 entries! Enter soon!

Finally, we are formulating plans for Pacific Brewers Cup, to be held in October or November.  Stay tuned for further details.
