First Friday at the Carriage House Taproom – June 1st.

June 1st at the Carriage House Taproom – At the home of Dan and Anne

It’s time for another visit to the Carriage House Taproom!  As usual, the event officially begins at 7:00pm and ends when Dan and Anne kick the last one of us out (around 11).

Dan has a great home “tavern” and welcomes all PG members to partake of his hospitality.  Guest kegs are welcome.  If you plan to bring a keg, let Dan know (danhakes@mac.com) and he will set up a jockey box.  Bring homebrew, commercial beer, and anything else you would like to drink.

Our hosts will graciously prepare some food, but this First Friday is a potluck, so please bring something to share – finger food is especially great.

We will be out in the backyard for what is hopefully a warm spring evening, but jackets are recommended after the sun goes down.  There is a dartboard (feel free to bring your own darts if you’d like!) and a fire pit that may get lit up later in the evening.

Hope to see you all there!

Second Saturday at Eagle Rock Brewery – May 12th

We’re doing a Second Saturday in May rather than a First Friday due to the Southern California Homebrew Fest landing on the first weekend, and so that we can meet up with our fellow homebrew club, the Yeastside Brewers, after their club meeting at 4pm.

For those of you who have not been to Eagle Rock Brewery before, it is dedicated to producing unique artisanal craft beers and supporting the growing beer community in Los Angeles.  Some PG alumni have found a home at Eagle Rock, so you may encounter a familiar face or two.

They have taps dedicated to their well-crafted beers and a couple of well-selected guest taps.  Growler fills and bottles are also available if you are inspired to bring some brew home to enjoy.  The brewery does not have a kitchen, but there are always food trucks on the weekends, usually beginning about 7pm.  You are welcome to bring your own food in as well.  You can check their website for more details about the current taps and food trucks next weekend:

Eagle Rock Brewery is located at: 3056 Roswell Street, Los Angeles CA 90065

While you’re in the area, you can also stop by our sister homebrew supply store:

Eagle Rock Home Brewing Supply4981 Eagle Rock Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90041

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

April 6th is First Friday at Richmond Bar & Grill.

April’s First Friday will be at one of PG’s favorite beer destinations – the Richmond Bar & Grill – which is located at 145 Richmond Street in historic downtown El Segundo.  We’ve reserved the back room and they always have a special keg or two on tap for us.

Early birds can start arriving at 5pm, but come on down when you can.  Remember that the Richmond is CASH ONLY; there’s an atm on site, but why pay the extra bank fees?  Bring your greenbacks while they’re still worth something…

In addition, El Segundo Brewing is within walking distance, so if you bought a growler at our recent visit, bring it along and get it filled.

Join us for some great beers and lively conversation!  See you there.

February First Friday – Change In Beer Lineup.

Hello again.  I just spoke to Rob at El Segundo Brewing.  He’s looking forward to meeting us and taking us around the brewery (if we’re there early enough – he needs to cut out for a family obligation).  Unfortunately, due to the very limited availability of Simcoe hops, the Blue House IPA won’t be on tap.  He told me he’s very happy with the recipe in its present form and didn’t want to try and “cheat” it with a different hop, so he’s waiting until he gets his next allocation to continue brewing it.

Instead, he hopes to premiere his Citra IPA with us – it’s actually slated for release the next day.  The W.I.P.A. Wheat IPA will also be on tap for anyone whose hop jones needs fixing, as will the Pale Ale and Double Stout.

Thanks again – hope to see you all there.

February First Friday at El Segundo Brewing

Please join us this Friday the 3rd for our monthly First Friday beer outing.  We’ll be showing our support for new local breweries (and homebrewers-gone-big!) by paying our first club visit to El Segundo Brewing Co. – brewers of “Blue House Ales”.

Rob Croxall was a longtime homebrewer before he took the necessary steps toward “living the dream” and opened the brewery in his home town of El Segundo.  On tap will be his 4 production beers: Blue House Pale AleBlue House IPA, White Dog W.I.P.A (a wheat IPA), and Hyperion’s Double Stout.  There may also be a “taproom only” experimental beer on.

Here are the details:

  • Date:  Friday, February 3rd.
  • Time:  Taproom hours that day are from 4:30pm to 8:30pm.  You’re welcome to arrive early, but it’s likely that many of us will get there around the official start-time of 6pm.  If we make a good showing, they may be able to stay open past 8:30 for us.
  • Food:  They’re strictly a brewery, but you’re welcome to bring your own munchies or order-in from local restaurants.
  • Location:  140 Main Street in El Segundo, 90245.  Phone is 310 529 3882.

Thanks, and hope to see you there.

September First Friday (Sept 2nd) @ Broadway Alehouse

Come kick off your Labor Day weekend at Pacific Gravity’s First Friday gathering on September 2nd.

We will be enjoying a hidden gem in Santa Monica: BROADWAY ALEHOUSE (aka FIFTH AMENDMENT).

Address:  129 Broadway (on the corner of 2nd and Broadway), Santa Monica, CA 90401

 Website:    http://www.pleadfifth.com/

Our usual start time for First Fridays is at 7pm but many people arrive early to get a head start on the weekend and the beers!

Parking Info:  Many lots in Santa Monica in easy walking distance. Or try the Broadway Alehouse’s suggestions for free parking:  (There are two pseudo-optimal ways to get free parking.  First, park in public parking on 2nd and Broadway before 6pm and leave before 2 hours free.  Second, park in public parking anytime and leave after 1:30am — the parking attendant is usually asleep with the gate up.)

The beers at Broadway Alehouse were one of the highlights on the May PG Bus Pub Crawl….we stayed over the “allotted” time since we had to try all the excellent beers! The owners have promised to have some interesting beers (20 taps) for our visit on September 2nd

Note: Broadway Alehouse doesn’t serve food but there are many, many great restaurants within easy walking distance (i.e. West 4th & Jane is only a block or so away) … so feel free to stop for food before or after our First Friday event or you can even take a break in the middle and come back for more excellent beers and good PG company.

Looking forward to seeing you on Friday (Sept 2) at Broadway Alehouse.
