June 3rd, First Friday @ Louie’s of Mar Vista

Hey PG!

I hope this reminder finds you all well, both in life and brew schedule. 🙂

Friday is our June First Friday at Louie’s of Mar Vista, which should be a very chill food and beers event. If you’re not familiar with Louie’s, it’s a well designed restaurant with a beautiful bar and dining room. They have an area out back that’s covered, but open to the outside air with a few tables. The food is excellent, ASAP style (As Southern As Possible), so I highly recommend you bring your appetite and a date. 😉 Here’s a link to the menu to get your appetite going: http://louiesofmarvista.com/?page_id=344

Beer and drink-wise they’re stocked pretty well, including a few locals like Monkish and Smog City the last time I was there and a whole bunch of specialty cocktails, enhanced by the fresh honey harvested from their bee boxes on the roof.

Tania and I will be there right around 7pm but you’re welcome to come by anytime. Looking forward to seeing you there!

First Friday @ The Doughroom, reminder!!!

Hi everyone, don’t forget tomorrow 7:00 pm Friday April 1st we are all going to The Doughroom for First Friday. If you have not been it is an awesome place that always has a great selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles. As well, they have amazing artisan pizza’s along with great appetizers, pasta main dishes, a newer burger I need to try, and more!
Although I can’t help, but almost always get the garlic knots app. and the “Spice Bear” pizza!!
The Doughroom and owner Kaveh are good friends of Pacific Gravity and recently they helped sponsor our 2016 LABBC homebrew comp. So lets show our support and make a trip to see them.

Check out their website for Menu items and Beer lists, and they have an amazing 4 star Yelp review too, which basically is 5 stars on Yelp….
http://thedoughroom.com  and  Yelp

3409 Overland Ave, Los Angeles Ca. 90034
(Between Rose and Palms, tucked in the corner by the Sterling Cleaners)

As an added bonus I hear they might put on a keg of Panil Barriquee, an oaken aged sour red ale that was triple fermented!
So come out to The Doughroom Friday night, invite your Friends and Family. Get some Amazing Food and Great Beer! If theres not a beer lover in the bunch, they have an extensive list of wines and bubbly too.

I definitely suggest that everyone Uber or Lyft, or carpool if you can Friday night. Parking can be limited, but they have a small lot to park in, street parking on Overland and on the adjacent streets.

Can’t wait to see everyone Friday, get a Spicy Bear, and a few cold Pints!!

First Friday At Irish Times

Hey PG!   Our monthly First Friday event is coming right up and this time we’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with Irish Times Pub & Restaurant. Meet there starting at 7:30PM on Friday and bring a friend or two!

irish times

As Google notes, Irish Times is an “unpretentious tavern serving Irish fare” and meeting there for First Friday every March is a PG tradition. I’m told that they’ll have some special beers on tap for us and I’m thinking of trying their Shepherd’s Pie and the Corned Beef sandwich because it wouldn’t be St. Patty’s day without a plate full of food and a pint full of beer!  😀    Also, they *should* have a live band playing too.

So order up an Uber or draw straws for who plays designated driver. Tania and I are going the ride-share route because this one is so close to home.

Hope to see you all there!

Three Weavers Recap

We had a great big turnout for First Friday at Three Weavers Brewing Company in Inglewood last night and it was fun seeing everybody. It feels good to show up and find so many of us together. In case you missed it, here are a few photos (care of Lloyd) and a recap.

Founder Lynne and the team at TW were ready for us and generously honored a special members-only discount for the whole night. Emily White, our resident PG’er at Three Weavers, gave a tour of their [giant] space and all of the beers I sampled were excellent. As I’ve mentioned before the Blood Junkie Imp Red and Kill The Lights Black Lager have been favorites of mine lately. For this visit I went for a sampler flight and I really had a tough time deciding on my growler fill when the time came.

Lloyd had a sign up sheet for our upcoming Monsterbrew with Smog City going around. Still room on the list if you want to reserve a portion, it’s a very cool event and you go home with a project to work on, I highly recommend it. Get into contact with Lloyd for more information.

We also had three new members sign up, which is exciting. Now that I’m seeing firsthand how membership dues drive the club events and benefits I have a better understanding of why growth is great. Most of us have at least one friend who is always “almost ready” to try brewing some beer. Our events are a great way to put them in front of a bunch of like minded people so bring the good ones along.

Tumby’s Pizza boxes and glasses of beer surrounded our group in the tasting room. I think at one point we had 2/3 of the inside seating completely filled with PG, and even with all of our extra people clogging up the beertender line, Three Weavers kept things moving smoothly and glasses full.  A well earned thank you to Lynne, Emily and everyone at Three Weavers for recognizing our club and for their gracious hospitality.

First Friday At Three Weavers Brewing Company

Hey PG! February First Friday is just days away and this time we’re dropping in for a visit with our friends at Three Weavers Brewing Company. Meet there starting at 7:00pm on Friday and bring a friend!

Three Weavers has a roomy indoor/outdoor taproom with plenty of long tables and benches for seating and it’s a very short drive down Sepulveda Blvd. from Culver City. Bring out your appetite for local beer and dinner too as there are a few good dining options within walking distance. I recommend the pizza.

I also recommend that you bring along a clean growler to fill and take home at the end of the night. TW graciously pours growlers-to-go full of most of their beers and who doesn’t like fresh beer for the weekend?

Finally, [as always] bring a designated driver or take a ride service there and back. First Friday is the most fun when you get home safely.

Looking forward to seeing you all, Tania and I will be there by 7:30.

Cheers To A Happy New Year!

With the holidays behind us, there is only one more party night in 2015 to go and there are just a few quick things to mention before you throw on your best suit and break out the NYE noisemakers…

Holiday Party Recap

The holiday party was a smash success and we owe a huge thank you to everyone who pitched in. Whether you helped plan, or brought a dish to share or beer, or helped during setup and clean up, it all came together perfectly and much merry fun was had.

Neil, for your generous donation of the space. Ian and Marvin, for your exceptional culinary work. Terry, for playing Santa so well, raffling off all those goodies. Mimi for helping us put it all together. Brian, Tad+Ramesh, Carl… The list is SO long. Thank you for going above and beyond.

Food and Clothing Charity Drive

Another huge thank you is in order to those guests who brought donations of food and clothing for our charity drive. We ended up with three huge boxes full and it marks a proud moment for us as a club. It was great to give something back and we’re looking forward to having a charitable piece to future events too. If you have any suggestions or ideas send them to us at [email protected] or bring them up at our next club meeting.

First Friday January 2016 Plans

Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve and I hope everyone has a great time out there (safely) with friends and family.  Because of the way the actual first Friday of the year lands, we’re pushing the PG First Friday event to Friday January 8th. It’ll be held at Father’s Office in Culver City starting around 7pm and going until as late as they’ll let us stay. While there is no reserved seating, I’ll be there early to try and hold down a table or two. Come early or come late, we’ll be there with beers on. Oh and they make a damn good pub burger too, if you’ve never had one this is your chance. It’s a Culver City treasure.

Alright, I have to go locate a magnum of Chimay (because who toasts Champagne anymore??)  and I’m hoping to see you out on Friday the 8th.

Until then, Happy New Year from the PG board!

First Friday This Week at Phantom Carriage

This First Friday we’ll be going down to Phantom Carriage to support our fellow club members.  Simon has hooked us up with the Barrel Guild Room at 7pm.  Our own private room, pretty sweet! Another cool part about this First Friday, Simon will be giving us our very own tour at 8pm so don’t miss out!

Come out and support Phantom and their awesome one of kind brewery and brews!  They have some really good stuff!!!!

On another note, please be aware this months club meeting has moved up to Saturday, November 14th. Please make a note of it on your calendars as we have lots going on that day so you want to make sure you come.  We’ll have more info later this week about it.

First Friday is tomorrow at The Doughroom ( bottle share also, please read for details) !

First Friday is here and what better place to celebrate than The Doughroom! This First Friday will be a special one as Kaveh and co are graciously allowing us to have another bottle share.  Make sure you bring your best bottle (yes, only 1 bottle) to share with fellow Pacific Gravity members and patrons.

If you are bringing a bottle to share, you MUST purchase some food and drink as well. Lets make sure to support The Doughroom so we can continue having awesome events there like this one!

Also, they still have some Monkish beers on tap (sorry, doesn’t look like Triumphus is there any longer) and some other great beers.  And if you haven’t had their lasagna yet or the Spicy Bear pizza, you need to try them!

First Friday – Monkish Brewing Co

First Friday is upon us and this month we’ve changed it up and are going to Monkish.  The reason we decided to do this is because Triumphus is on tap!

What is Triumphus?  It is the best of show beer at the Los Angeles Belgian Brew Challenge (ran by Pacific Gravity) this year, that was won by our very own Brian Holter and Kingsley Toby!  Not only is it a delicious tripel, it will be entered as a pro-am for this years GABF!  Even more awesome, it also comes in corked bottles which are only sold at the brewery!  There are limited quantities so make sure you support the club and Monkish and buy some, it’s really good, as Henry and co have graciously supported us for this competition and even put the PG logo on the bottle! How cool is that?!

Food at Monkish

Monkish does have snacks available in the tasting room and outside food is welcome, so please make sure you plan accordingly.
