Reminders! Club Meeting tonight & Bus Trip on Saturday

Just your friendly reminder that our club meeting is tonight at CCHBS.

Also, the OC Bus Trip is on Saturday.  Remember that you will need to bring cash for lunch.  We will have our own patio, but we will have 1 bill (in exchange for a non-fixed menu) so cash will make organizing everything easier.

See you all tonight!  We have a lot to go over with elections, upcoming events and our new homebrew competition next spring.  Do NOT miss this club meeting

NOVEMBER CLUB ANNIVERSARY BREW AND CHILI COOKOFF
Next month’s club meeting is going to be held on a SATURDAY at Ian’s place.  We will be doing our annual Chili Cookoff and a club brew.  Next February is our 20th anniversary and we would like to have a beer brewed by the club ready to drink at the February club meeting.  We will have a brew system setup in Ian’s backyard while we brew our 20th Anniversary Beer – a Belgian Dubbel.  The board decided on the style (to coincide with our Belgian Beer Competition in March), but we want club members to collaboratively come up with a recipe for this brew!  The plan is as follows:

  • We will post a recipe form for download on the PG website sometime in the next week.  Please submit recipes using this form.
  • Submit your recipe via email to president [at] pacificgravity.com before 10/23/2014
  • Once all recipes have been received we will post them with a poll that will be active for a few weeks.
  • The winning recipe must fit within the Belgian Dubbel style guidelines.
  • All members who are current on their membership dues are eligible to submit recipes.
  • This beer will be brewed on 11/22/2014 @ Ian’s house during our club meeting / chili cook off event.

BELGIAN BEER COMPETITION – ORGANIZING COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

October Road Trip Details!

Join Pacific Gravity as we travel down to OC to hit some of the newest players in the Southern California beer scene as well as an old favorite.  On October 18th we will be taking a bus from Culver City Home Brewing Supply (please park in the neighborhood behind the shop).  We will be stopping at TAPS in Brea to enjoy some of their excellent food and their many GABF and World Beer Cup medal winning beers.  Up next will be Bottle Logic brewing.   Yet to celebrate their first anniversary, Bottle Logic is already making waves with standouts like Leche Mole milk stout, the sessionable She Shot First American wheat ale and hop bombs like Actuator and Double Actuator.   After that we’ll be going around the corner to Valiant Brewing, an under the radar spot that has an impressive lineup of big beers, from Alpha Drive and Alpha Overdrive for the hop heads to the gold medal winning Axiom Trappist style ale.

We have spots open still on the bus and will be emailing other clubs to fill the remaining seats – so email Kurt @ roadtrips@pacificgravity.com to grab a spot.

All questions should also go to Kurt @ roadtrips@pacificgravity.com.  It is sure to be a great time, so please join us if you are free.

With PBC behind us (whew!) don’t forget we have one more contest to enter this year. Registration is now up and running for the California State Homebrew Competition at http://nchfinfo.org/castatecomp/. Like usual, we need a volunteer to drive our entries up to Berkeley. If you can help out, the club will reimburse you $125 for gas money. Entries would need to be hand-delivered between October 4 and October 11, 2014. Monster Brew! Strand Brewers w/ King Harbor Brewing

Hey everyone!

Our friends at Strand Brewers Club have extended an invitation to Pacific Gravity to join them on their Monster Brew scheduled for September 27th at King Harbor Brewing!

If you are interested in participating send an email to Ryan (Strand Pres) @ president@strandbrewersclub.org

They will be opening up positions to other clubs on 9/15.  From what I understand the beer is going to be approximately 1.080 OG and will be a malty brown base.  More information about the beer will come out later, but if you are interested in participating make sure you send your email soon!

Brian

Here is the information passed along:

Monster Brew Update

King Harbor Brewing and the Strand Brewers Club are hosting a monster brew on September 27th starting at 9:00 AM.

Finish the LA beer week festivities by attending a monster brew at King Harbor. If you aren’t familiar with a Monster Brew this is a great chance to observe and learn from a commercial brewing session and bring home 5 gallons of wort.

Please respond to this email or at the September meeting if you would like to purchase wort, and let me know if you would like more than 5 gallons. Pending the interest level it should be possible to purchase more than 5 gallons of wort.

An important change to my last email: Bring plastic bucket type fermentors or corny kegs to collect wort.  No glass or better bottle PET carboy shape fermentors.

The brew session will start at 9AM, the tasting room will be open, and wort should be ready to be dispensed around 2PM. This is a great opportunity to observe and learn from a commercial brewing session.

5 gallons of wort will be 30 dollars for any member of a homebrew club and 35 for any non-brew club member. Wort needs to be collected in plastic fermentation buckets or corny kegs; no glass. This will allow everything to be filled with a brewery hose.

There should be a food truck on hand for lunch as well.

Pacific Brewers Cup | WE NEED YOUR COOLERS!

PBC is fast approaching and we need your coolers to help keep your hard work cold during judging. If you have a cooler you can lend us – please bring them to the August 21st APacific Gravity Club meeting @ Culver City Home Brew Supply! BE COOL AND BRING A COOLER!

Cheers!
