Pacific Brewers Cup Results Posted

Results for the 2015 Pacific Brewers Cup have been posted!  Congrats to Craig Corley with four ribbons including a 1st place for his Alt #15.    Brian and Kingsley stepped in with two firsts and a a 3rd, with help from Kevin Segna to pull an a 2nd place as well.  Ted and Lloyd picked up a 1st place for their Lavander IPA beer in the Spice/Herb/Vegetable category and an honorable mention in the Strong Belgian Ale category as well.  Dan and Emily picked up a couple of 3rds.  Chris Lindsay and Mike Patterson each picked up a 3rd.  Finally to round out the field, Neil Saund picked up an honorable mention for his Biere de Garde.

Thanks to all the PG members that showed up for the judging session at Four Points Sheraton.   Strand Brewers did an excellent job this year.  My hat is off to them!

Pacific Brewer Cup Entry Deadline Saturday

Just a reminder that the entry deadline for  Pacific Brewers Cup  is this Saturday Sept 12 at Noon!  Register now!

Judges and Stewards are also needed.  Sign up at the same you register your entries!  http://www.pacificbrewerscup.com/

Entries can be dropped off at the Culver City Home Brewing Supply Company, or at several other locations.

The competition is going to be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Four Points Sheraton LAX, 9750 Airport Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, 90045.

First Friday – Monkish Brewing Co

First Friday is upon us and this month we’ve changed it up and are going to Monkish.  The reason we decided to do this is because Triumphus is on tap!

What is Triumphus?  It is the best of show beer at the Los Angeles Belgian Brew Challenge (ran by Pacific Gravity) this year, that was won by our very own Brian Holter and Kingsley Toby!  Not only is it a delicious tripel, it will be entered as a pro-am for this years GABF!  Even more awesome, it also comes in corked bottles which are only sold at the brewery!  There are limited quantities so make sure you support the club and Monkish and buy some, it’s really good, as Henry and co have graciously supported us for this competition and even put the PG logo on the bottle! How cool is that?!

Monkish does have snacks available in the tasting room and outside food is welcome, so please make sure you plan accordingly.

Competition Corner – August 2015

Judges Needed for Thursday Session

I still need three more judges for the Thursday judging session for the LA County Fair at the Culver City shop at 7:00 PM.  We could also use a steward or two as well.

We have the following styles to judge:

CLASS 5. AMERICAN-STYLE PALE ALE – 16 entries
CLASS 9. AMBER AND DARK LAGER – 11 entries

LA County Fair Entries Due Friday July 24th

2015 LA County FairAs everybody gets ready for the summer party, we have another deadline to keep in mind. Entries for the 2015 Los Angeles County Fair Homebrew Competition are due at the Culver City shop no later than Friday, July 24th. Yes, this is our big party set-up day, so don’t let it slip your mind as you chill down your keg and make up a pot-luck dish. California State Fair Entries Due May 3rd

Online entry registration is due May 3rd for the California State Fair Homebrew Competition.  Entry information and registration is available at http://www.northerncalbrewers.com/homebrew-competition.

Thanks to Jeff Sanders and Ryan Penrod of Strand Brewers Homebrew club, you can drop off your physical entries at the South Bay Brewing Supply Co. on or before May 8th.   Jeff has graciously offered to drive the beers down to the San Diego drop-off point.   Please do NOT drop them at the Culver city shop.  There is no pick-up there and your beer could very well be consumed!

South Bay Brewing Co is at 1311 Post Avenue in Old Town Torrance.

If you happen to miss the local drop-off, you can ship you beers up to Sacramento by May 15th.

Mayfaire Entries Due April 9th

April is already here and that means it’s time to get your homebrew competition entries going. Registration is now open for Mayfaire hosted by the Maltose Falcons. Entries are due April 9th at the Culver City Shop. On-line registration is up and running at http://www.maltosefalcons.com/events/sat-04252015-0900-2015-mayfaire-homebrew-competition. Note that they use their own style guide, so check category numbers before entering. Please sign up to judge and steward too; they will need our help. Judging will take place on Saturday April 25 at 9:00 AM at St Martins in the Fields Church 7136 Winnetka Ave Winnetka CA, 91306 (click for map). We may also do a prelim judging on the Westside. March Club Meeting & LABBC

Reminder that this month’s club meeting is this Thursday at Culver City Homebrew Supply.  We will be announcing the winners from our first Los Angeles Belgian Brew Challenge which took place over the weekend.  Ribbons will be on hand for those of you who took home some prizes!  We will have signup sheets on hand for LABBC shirts if you are interested in picking one up!

Start brewing up beers for the So Cal Homebrewers Fest.  The festival is a little over a month away and we want to have a good showing of kegs on hand.
