Foam on the brain from the President

by Ian Fraser

Happy New Year!

We are starting out a new year with some changes to the P.G. Board.  I would like to thank our outgoing officers, Eli Barone and Terry Malloy for their work on behalf of the club; and welcome in the new board:

Ian Fraser – President
Parker Waechter – Vice-President
Derek Marshall – Secretary/Communications
Craig Corley – Treasurer
Carl – Competition Coordinator
Brian Watson – IT
Dean Sussman – Activity Director

This year is Pacific Gravity’s 25th Anniversary Year and we are planning some fun events and trips to commemorate this milestone!

February is the actual anniversary month and we hope to make that particular meeting memorable!

We are planning a 25th anniversary bottle share on Saturday, February 15 at The 4th Horseman in Long Beach…any of you who went last year will know that Martin pulls out some crazy beers for this event.

We also plan to do an actual 25th anniversary party at Tomm Carroll’s TruxStop Bar and Grill much like the 20th anniversary we held there 5 years ago!  The date of this event is not settled but most likely will not be in February or March.  April has been suggested.

For March’s First Friday (on Saturday March 7, 2020) we are planning to arrange a bus trip to the Stuffed Sandwich, Marlene has promised to put together something special for us to celebrate our year.

The LABBC will be held in March also, so get brewing and enter that competition!

There will be much more big brews, pub crawls, and road trips!  So stay tuned to the social media pages and email notifications!

First First Friday of 2020!

Happy New Year Pacific Gravity!

Let’s welcome a new year with a new beer! Our first First Friday is this Friday, January 3rd, 2020 and we are going to visit a new brewery in El Segundo called Surfridge Brewing Co.

First Friday: January 3, 2020
Where: Surfridge Brewing Co.  137 Nevada St. El Segundo, CA 90245
Time: 7:00 PM

I hope to see you all there!

Cheers,

11th Monster Brew March 9th at Smog City Brewery

Smog City Brewing Company 1901 Del Amo Blvd, Torrance, CA 90501

Can you believe it?  Pacific Gravity has been doing Monster Brews with Smog City’s  Brewmaster, Jon Porter for 11 years!  With five trips to Tustin Brewing and five hosted at Smog, we will be making our 11th Monster Brew on Saturday, March 9th, 2019.  Everybody has a blast at these events, so please come out and join us!

Date:  Saturday, March 9, 2018
Time: Mash-In: Approx 7:00 am
Fermenter Filling:  Around Noon
Location:  Smog City Brewery 1901 Del Amo Blvd, Torrance, CA 90501

Jon Porter and Carl Townsend are developing a base wort that is sure to allow for maximum creativity.  Consider this your blank slate.  For the hop heads, boost up the bitterness with your favorite English or American hop tea to make an awesome IPA, or darken it up with roasted malts to make a porter or stout. Use your imagination to make the most awesome beer ever.  Each person will need to pitch a yeast of their choice, add adjuncts to the wort, dry hop in secondary, or do nothing special to it at all.  To see the full recipe and for modification ideas, see “How Do I Modify My Monster Brew?”

COST and RESERVATIONS

We need a headcount BEFORE the brew session, so you must must make a reservation if you want wort.  The cost will be $30 for each 5 gallons of wort.  You can order several batches if you like.    If possible, please pay in advance.

You can sign up one of two ways:

1) Pay now with Paypal.  If you do this your reservation is good to go.

2) Drop a line to treasurer@pacificgravity.com  saying how many batches you want.   Payment will be due on brew day.  We will accept payment at the Monster Brew; cash, check and credit card will be accepted. Read more
