We have some more events coming up in July, so set your calendars!

July 1st for First Friday will be south of us at King Harbor’s Waterfront Tasting Room, in the Redondo Pier area! really close to Naja’s Place. Go down via Uber or Lyft and check them out, have a few of their beers and if you need more then head next door. Waterfront Location: 132 International Boardwalk, Redondo Beach, CA 90277
(Note: Do not mistake the location with King Harbor’s actual brewery located at 2907 182nd street Redondo Beach, California 90278)

July 10th for Sunday Funday in the Arts Disttrict, Downtown LA!! This should be a real fun bar crawl in a cool part of downtown with a lot of great beer bars, food, and Breweries. Plus the highlight event where we get a personal tour from club friend Devon Randall, aka Head Brewer at the Arts District Brewery.
The Plan: So the Expo Line just opened up all the way the Santa Monica, so this is a great excuse to use it. The train’s will take you all the way to the Arts District area. Plan on getting on the trains about 10am-10:30am to meet at our first location: Wurstkuche at 11am, where you can get the best sausages in town and some awesome German and Belgian beers. Then about 12:30pm-1pm we head across the street to the Arts District Brewery, where we will meet Devon, drink her beer’s, eat more food, and set off on a personal tour of the brewing facilities. After a good while of hanging at the brewery, the next stop we leave it up to the group, or the individuals. I might head to 82 the Arcade Bar, or Mumford Brewing a few block away. There is also Angel City Brewing and Eat Drink Americano real close too. A bit farther you can cab it to Iron Triangle Brewing, Little Bear, or Villains Tavern. Check out all the links I added to each location, I will announce at the June club meeting and post more about the schedule closer to the date of the event.

July 23rd for Pacific Gravity’s Summer Party!! Definitely set your calendars for this, the biggest event of the year! We will have sign up sheet at this thursday’s club meeting for volunteers, beers, and pot luck food. We will also be looking for some special volunteers to help out Ian with the food duties as well, the week before, during set up, and during the summer party day since he is not as mobile as usual. We will make the official announcements at the meeting this Thursday at the Culver City Homebrew Supply shop.

Summer Party Beverages

Dean-Carl-WaveHey, we have just a couple weeks to go until the summer party at Dean’s place on Saturday, July 25th, and some of you haven’t let me know what beers and sodas you are bringing. Please drop me a line at [email protected] to let me know what you have. Some of you had listed “TBD”, so if you know what it is, please send me an update. Everyone who signs up in advance will have a colorful tap tag.

As usual, we will be voting for the best beer and best specialty beverage of the party. This year, to complement our All-American Barbeque, our specialty beverage theme is “Red, White and/or Blue”.  Any non-beer beverage that is red, white, and/or blue
will be in the running for our specialty contest. Your beverage can be a soda, alcohol-containing beverage, mead, cider or whatever potable potion you can dream up. The only restriction is that it can’t be beer. Sorry, folk, your wit beer can’t be used as a specialty “white” entry. But, rest assured, it will be considered for the Best Beer of the Party, an equally prestigious honor. Please let me know if it has alcohol in it, so we can arrange it on the correct table. We’ll have a few guests in the under-21 club, and don’t want any confusion. Either before or after. And, remember, sodas go a long way to breaking up the heat on a long summer day, so take the opportunity to sample them liberally.

We also need jockey boxes and CO2 cylinders to help make sure all the beverages flow cold with perfect carbonation. We have more kegs than taps on the Wave, and the jockey boxes help out big time. If you can bring a bag of ice for each jockey box, that would help out too. Rumor has it we’ll need a few Sanke taps, so if you have one bring it along.

If you enjoy serving beer, we’ll be setting up hour-long bartender shifts as the party gets going. It’s easy and fun, and a great way to meet everyone at the party.

If at all possible, please bring your kegs and heavy stuff Friday evening up to Dean’s place and help us set up. This makes the last minute activities on Saturday morning go much more smoothly. The early kegs get the best slots on the Wave. Make sure all your kegs, coolers, tanks and taps are well labeled so they all return to their rightful owners Sunday morning.

We still need help with pot-luck dishes, tables, easy-ups and other miscellaneous assistance. If you have a contribution, please contact Mimi at [email protected].

Dean Sussman’s place is at 1310 Amalfi Dr. Pacific Palisades, CA 90272. Setup starts Friday the 19th at 6:00 PM. The party runs from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM Saturday, July 20th. Cleanup begins at 10:00 AM on Sunday morning.

Hope to see you there!
Carl Townsend

Summer Party: New Pacific Gravity gear: Lanyards and Glass holders!

The last of our PG gear that will be for sale at this year’s Summer Party is our new Lanyards with beer glass holders.  These things are extremely slick.  The lanyards are custom embroidered with our logo and name along the leash and come with a small black plastic ring that you can use to hold your taster glass in it.  In August we will be handing out larger aluminum rings to those of you who purchased lanyards from the club at the Summer Party that will fit our new PG glassware.  Here is a picture of the new lanyards:

Lanyards will be for sale for $10 including both the plastic and aluminum ring (handed out at the August club meeting).  If you buy a glass and a lanyard at the same time the price for the two items is discounted to $14.

Is it Saturday yet?

Summer Party Beer Sign-up

Neil+kegs2Hey, we are just six days away from the Summer Party and there are about 20 of you out there who still haven’t told me what beer(s) you are bringing!  I’ll make up the traditional festive toe tags, but only if I know in advance what you have.  Email me ASAP at [email protected].   Remember, the early beers get the best tap slots, and the best beer wins a prize!

Our special drink competition this year features lemon, any drink alcohol, non-alcoholic, beer, or soda that features lemon is eligible for our drink competition. Of course, all sodas and beers are welcome and we encourage you to drop off your keg at CCHBS by 5pm on Friday so they can be taken to the party.

Also, we still need CO2 and jockey boxes too.  We’ll have more kegs than will fit on our 22-tap setup, so please bring it so we can keep all these delicious beverages nice and cold and carbonated!   Of course, be sure to have your name on any equipment that you bring to the party sot it can be returned to its rightful owner.

Summer Party: New Pacific Gravity gear! Glasses!

We are now officially one week away from our Summer Party.  We had our planning meeting at Dean’s house this past Thursday and I am really excited about the food lineup that Ian is putting together and some of the raffle prizes that we are going to be giving away throughout the party.

In addition to the raffle prizes, we ordered some new Pacific Gravity gear that will be for sale during the party.  Last night when I got home I found the boxes for our new PG glassware sitting at my front door!  Here is a picture of the glasses:

2014 Pacific Gravity Glasses!

2014 Pacific Gravity Glasses!

These glasses will be for sale at the front gate when you arrive.  They are the same 10oz glasses that I showed at the June club meeting at Neil’s house and they look awesome!  We have a few more PG items that will be for sale at the party as well which I will post about this week.

VOLUNTEERS

Just a quick reminder that this party is best when we have a lot of volunteers to help us put everything together.  Please read through this post from earlier this week outlining the help that we will need from all of you to help make this party awesome.  For those of you who have already volunteered, thank you!

The event page is located HERE.  Like last year, entry to the party is free for paid club members and there is a $10 entry fee for all guests.  This $10 fee goes towards helping the club host events in the future for all of you.

Cheers everyone – see you soon!
Brian

Summer Party Information!!!

The Pacific Gravity summer party is coming up fast!  It will happen on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Dean Sussman’s party pad located at:

1310 Amalfi Dr.
Pacific Palisades CA 90272.

The party starts at 2 PM and continues on into the evening.  Entry is free for paid members, $10 for guests.

We still need volunteers to help make this party a huge success! How can you help? Here’s a list of ways:

SET UP AND CLEAN UP

We need your help setting up tables, beers, tiki torches, and decorations on Friday night at 6pm. Then, we need your help taking it all back down Sunday morning. As always, those generous enough to help set up and clean up will enjoy delicious beers and those who clean up on Sunday morning will enjoy more delicious leftovers than theycan shake a stick at and plenty of “hair of the dog” to help get them going! To sign up for clean up or set up please e-mail [email protected]

KITCHEN HELP

Ian is our masterchef and he needs your help preparing food for everyone. To volunteer, please e-mail [email protected]  As always, this event is a potluck and we’d like to encourage you to bring dishes that fit with the theme including appetizers, desserts, and side dishes.  Last year many of you brought dishes that made the party a huge success!  We hope you can repeat that effort again this year!   So far we are very light on food sign up from the members.  To sign up to bring food, email [email protected]

POTLUCK

The food this year is going to be a delicious Acadian style BBQ (think Cajun, Creole and southern!)  We welcome any and all main, side-dish, dessert or appetizer that you can think of!  Your participation in the pot-luck is what makes our party so spectacular!  The club will be providing a series of dishes that fit the theme BUT WE REALLY NEED YOU HELP TO PUT US OVER THE TOP!

KEGS, CO2, JOCKEY BOXES AND LEMON DRINKS

After all, isn’t that what our club is all about!?  Our drink competition this year features lemon, any drink alcohol, non-alcoholic, beer, or soda that features lemon is eligible for our drink competition. Of course, all beers are welcome and we encourage you to drop off your keg at CCHBS by 5pm on Friday so they can be taken to the party. Please let Carl know that you’ll be providing a beverage so that he can create a label for your drink. Email Carl at [email protected]

If you made a jockey box at our jockey box event or have a jockey box, please bring it so we can keep all these delicious beverages nice and cold!!  We need CO2 to dispense the beer!  If you have a CO2 tank that you can bring please email carl

Of course, be sure to have your name on any equipment that you bring to the party.

CD SYSTEM

Wanna spend some quality time with the new and improved CDS (club draft system)? Volunteer for a one hour shift pouring beers for your fellow revelers by e-mailing Ramesh at [email protected]

FRONT GATE

Sign up for a one hour shift working at the front gate checking in members, collecting entrance fees, and selling raffle tickets. Email Ramesh at [email protected]

TABLES, CHAIRS, CANOPIES and BBQ’s

We need tables and canopies. Please bring your tables and canopies on Fiday’s set-up day!  Ian also requests that if you have a Weber BBQ and can bring it to the Friday set-up, please do so!  The more cook tops he has, the quicker we can all eat!  The food will follow last year’s serving plan, which seemed to be very well received,  and be continuous throughout the day instead of a dinner at 6 pm SO PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY!  If you want to sit down at the party make sure you bring a fold up beach/camping chair with you.

We look forward to seeing you at party and thanks in advance for your generous volunteering!!

Party on, Pacific Gravity!
