Summer Party Beverages

Dean-Carl-WaveHey, we have just a couple weeks to go until the summer party at Dean’s place on Saturday, July 25th, and some of you haven’t let me know what beers and sodas you are bringing. Please drop me a line at Competitions@PacificGravity.com to let me know what you have. Some of you had listed “TBD”, so if you know what it is, please send me an update. Everyone who signs up in advance will have a colorful tap tag.

As usual, we will be voting for the best beer and best specialty beverage of the party. This year, to complement our All-American Barbeque, our specialty beverage theme is “Red, White and/or Blue”.  Any non-beer beverage that is red, white, and/or blue
will be in the running for our specialty contest. Your beverage can be a soda, alcohol-containing beverage, mead, cider or whatever potable potion you can dream up. The only restriction is that it can’t be beer. Sorry, folk, your wit beer can’t be used as a specialty “white” entry. But, rest assured, it will be considered for the Best Beer of the Party, an equally prestigious honor. Please let me know if it has alcohol in it, so we can arrange it on the correct table. We’ll have a few guests in the under-21 club, and don’t want any confusion. Either before or after. And, remember, sodas go a long way to breaking up the heat on a long summer day, so take the opportunity to sample them liberally.

We also need jockey boxes and CO2 cylinders to help make sure all the beverages flow cold with perfect carbonation. We have more kegs than taps on the Wave, and the jockey boxes help out big time. If you can bring a bag of ice for each jockey box, that would help out too. Rumor has it we’ll need a few Sanke taps, so if you have one bring it along.

If you enjoy serving beer, we’ll be setting up hour-long bartender shifts as the party gets going. It’s easy and fun, and a great way to meet everyone at the party.

If at all possible, please bring your kegs and heavy stuff Friday evening up to Dean’s place and help us set up. This makes the last minute activities on Saturday morning go much more smoothly. The early kegs get the best slots on the Wave. Make sure all your kegs, coolers, tanks and taps are well labeled so they all return to their rightful owners Sunday morning.

We still need help with pot-luck dishes, tables, easy-ups and other miscellaneous assistance. If you have a contribution, please contact Mimi at summerparty@pacificgravity.com.

Dean Sussman’s place is at 1310 Amalfi Dr. Pacific Palisades, CA 90272. Setup starts Friday the 19th at 6:00 PM. The party runs from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM Saturday, July 20th. Cleanup begins at 10:00 AM on Sunday morning.

Hope to see you there!
Carl Townsend

Summer Party – July 25th

This year’s summer party is set for July 25, 2015 and will be held at Dean Sussman’s tiny bungalow located at 1310 Amalfi Drive, Pacific Palisades.  The theme for this year’s 20th anniversary summer party is set! We are gearing up for a red, white & blue All-American BBQ! Being our 20th anniversary, we want to really do it up this year and with your help we intend on having all of the traditional types of BBQ food and festivities!

We plan on cooking pulled pork, some beef brisket, a bunch of chickens and maybe some hamburgers and hot dogs! Plus, all the ‘fixins’ you can shake a stick at!

However, this being a potluck event, we need you to bring your favorite BBQ dish along to the event as well. Any BBQ theme dish is welcome, so the menu is WIDE open for you to show off your culinary skills! Please email Mimi at summerparty@pacificgravity.com what dish or dishes you plan to bring! (thanks to those who already signed up!)

The summer party is a volunteer’s event, and we need lots of volunteers! Volunteers will be needed for set up the day before and clean up of Dean’s house the day after. We pay all volunteers in beer at the event, all-you-can-drink in fact; the only catch is we need you to brew the beer so we can use it to pay the volunteers! Lot’s of beer! Now is a good time to brew a batch to be ready in time for the party.

Please email Mimi at summerparty@pacificgravity.com when you can do some volunteering – Friday evening setup, Sunday morning clean up, and/or during the party on Saturday. (thanks to those who already signed up!)

We also need your sodas for the non-alcohol drinking crowd, if you have a good soda recipe; this is a great place to show it off.  Along with our best beer of the party competition, we will also host this year’s theme competition which will be color based on our Red, White and Blue theme! Bring a batch of your favorite red, white or blue alcohol or non-alcohol (sodas count!) summertime drink and we will judge it and announce a winner at the event.

Carl Townsend (Competition Coordinator) will be sending info soon on needs for all beverages contributions: beer, soda as well as equipment needs and sign ups.

Stay tuned for additional details!

LABW opening gala – Soda wanted!

Hey all you soda makers! The Los Angeles Brewers Guild is requesting your talents to contribute to the Non-Alcoholic refreshment tent at the LA Beer Week opening gala beer festival on June 20th. Fellow PG member Jonathan Porter of Smog City Brewing Co. is heading up the effort to put together an assortment of awesome non-alcoholic beverages for people to enjoy.

Here’s the details:

Sodas and other NA crazy beverages must be ready to go by Friday, June 19th and must be made to pour on draught via corny kegs. We’re asking for 3-5 gals (or more if you want to go all out!) per type and are offering to trade one VIP ticket per keg for the fest that day. The guild will also reimburse you for the cost of making the soda! Ever wanted to try making that crazy hibiscus ginger lemonade with jalapeños and horseradish? Now’s your chance! (actually, please don’t make that one 🙂 )

We don’t have all the details worked out for pouring, but we’re asking that if you come to the fest, you also spend time at the tent pouring and talking to people about your creation.

If you need CO2 for carbonation, or even a loaner keg, please email Porter at portertbc@gmail.com for questions, comments, concerns, and to let us know that you want to participate!

Thanks!

Get Ready for the AHA Conference

The annual AHA National Homebrewers Conference starts Thursday, June 11th at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego.  There are still a few slots left if you haven’t already registered.  Check out http://www.ahaconference.org/registration/details/ if you can make it.

We need to coordinate some of the club activities, so if I don’t already know you are going, please drop  me a line at competitions@pacificgravity.com.   In particular, I need to know what kegs you plan to bring so the relativity complex labels can be made for them.  Unlabeled kegs will get lost, or for sure will be warm and flat when you find them.

Please plan on helping out with the social hour pouring from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Friday afternoon, and again for Club night from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM Friday evening.   Please also plan to help with the booth set-up  for the evening session after we finish the afternoon pouring.

It’s going to be a great conference!

Everyone-

First off – sorry about the website issues.  It looks like the site is back up for now (hooray!) just in time for me to remind you all that we have a club meeting tomorrow night at CCHBS.  We have some important stuff to go over – most importantly is getting information about next months National Homebrewers Conference in San Diego.  Announcements will start at 8pm tomorrow, so please be there by then.

Also I updated the calendar with this year’s Summer Party date July 25 which will again be hosted by Dean.  Mark it down in your calendars!

If you happen to miss the local drop-off, you can ship you beers up to Sacramento by May 15th.

Good Luck!
